Crawley rock '˜n' roll grandad signed by leading record producer

Trevor Gear’s ‘Song For Sue’, produced by successful songwriter Mike Myers, will appear on A Breath of Fresh Air from Negart Records. The 3-CD compilation showcasing independent artists is out next month.

The grandfather of two has appeared in our paper before speaking of how he dreamt of breaking into the music industry. He is now a signed artist with Negart Records.

Trevor said: “Hopefully with this compilation my music will see some airplay and represent a big break for me. It reflects what I’ve always wanted to do.”

Trevor’s music has previously been played on BBC Radio Sussex. From this he was discovered by record producer and songwriter Mike Myers, who has sold 40 million records worldwide and counts Sir Cliff Richard as a former client.

The producer, who is best known for co-writing the hit ‘I’m In The Mood For Dancing’, liked the song so much that he called Trevor to ask if he could record it professionally in his studio.

When asked for comment on Trevor’s music, Mike said: “One thing that instantly struck me was his pure, simplistic approach to songwriting. His songs are inspired and fuelled by his close and sincere attachment to the everyday things in life that many of us take for granted; real events, his friends, his family and others, who somewhere along the way act as catalysts, that fire up his imagination.”

Trevor, who is now 64, began writing his own songs when he was ten years old.

When asked about the story behind the song, Trevor said: “I wrote the song about 10 years ago. It was inspired by a neighbour called Sue who asked me to write a song for her. I thought being her friend gave me poetic licence, and really the song is just about friendship.”

Neil Garton, managing director of Negart Records said about the track: “‘Song for Sue’ by Trevor Gear is a heart-warming song that clearly means something deeply to him, and we can tell that a lot of thought was put into the production of such a lovely song.”

Speaking about the compilation album, Neil said: “A Breath Of Fresh Air is about getting sixty of the best unsigned artists from across the world, and to provide a good platform for them.”

The CD will be available for £15 at negart-records.com or can be bought as a download for £10 at all major download stores from February 12.
