Crawley Town Community Foundation: Women and Girls' football continues to flourish

It’s a great opportunity to get active, meet new friends and have fun.

Crawley Town announced a new pan-disability Girls Wildcats session to go with our popular Friday Wildcats sessions.

Head of Community Development, Darren Ford said this about the Wildcats, “We are delighted to be introducing our pan-disability Wildcats sessions, and would like to thank our partners Forge Wood Primary School for the use of their facilities to enable us to deliver this exciting new project with Sussex FA. These sessions are ideal for girls to have fun and make friends in a safe environment, and we look forward to welcoming all abilities, regardless of experience.”

This pan-disability session runs every Thursday 16:30-17:30 at Forge Wood Primary School RH10 3SW and costs £3 per session for girls aged 5-11.

Every Friday between 17:00-18:00, the Crawley Town Wildcats sessions take place on the Checkatrade Stadium 3G Ball Court for girls aged 5-11.

Crawley Town also delivers Premier League Girls sessions in various schools across the week, and our award-winning Crawley Old Girls (COG’s) sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. Crawley Town staged a FA Girls Football Week tournament ahead of the game against Crewe, involving Southwater School, Crawley Wasps and Milford Pumas U11 Girls on the 3G Ball Court. Southwater won the entertaining tournament, 6-5 on penalties against Milford Pumas. At half-time of the Crawley vs Crewe game, all the girls took penalties against Reggie. Milford Pumas were ‘ball-girls’ for the game.

One parent from a player representing Milford Pumas Girls’ U11 Team had this to say about the week: “You’re helping them to create memories they will have forever.

“The FA Girls Football Week is fantastic opportunity to showcase the sessions and projects we have going on”, according to Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator Kayleigh Bowers.

“Girls Football Week is a very important part of the football calendar, as it continues to promote the hard work all clubs up and down the country are engaging to encourage women and girls of all abilities to get involved. Together with our SSE Wildcats sessions on Fridays between 17:00-18:00, we are very excited to be setting up the new SSE Disability Wildcats sessions between 16:30-17:30 on Thursdays at Forge Wood school.”

Kayleigh continued by mentioning our award-winning COG’s and their exciting nomination for the #BeAGameChanger finals.

Women’s Sport Trust has revealed the 28 individuals, teams, organisations and initiatives who have been selected as finalists for the 2018 #BeAGameChanger Award. And COGs have been nominated in the Inspiring Local Initiative category for their visionary work in helping older women play football ever since they were formed in 2015 by Carol Bates.
