Half of the players accompanied Reggie The Red to visit the children’s ward at East Surrey Hospital and the rest of the squad visited Chestnut Tree House, the hospice near Arundel for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Chestnut Tree House is the club’s official charity partner.

Captain Sonny Bradley said: “For the lads with young families Christmas is a great time but when you see just how poorly some of the children are it does make you appreciate how lucky you are to be fit and healthy.

“What goes on for the children, both at Chestnut Tree and East Surrey Hospital, is fantastic and it was great to see so many kids with smiles on their faces and to thank the staff for the hard work they do and listen to the parents, for whom it must be a difficult time as well.”
