Members of Neighbourhood Watch say that letters are going out to people claiming that the recipient has an upcoming positive change to their life, or that they are in trouble.

Other letters are being issued telling people they need to buy a ‘lucky’ charm for protections. And others state that ‘wonderful things have been seen in your future’ and tell people that all they need to do is send some money or buy a particular item.

A spokesman for Sussex Neighbourhood Watch said: “If you have received a suspicious e-mail then you can forward it to the National Cyber Security Centre at [email protected].

“They will investigate it and take action where possible.

“Timely alerts from people like you help them to act quickly and protect many more people from being affected.”
