COUNTY NEWS: Dead body found '˜floating in the sea'

There was tragedy at a Sussex beach yesterday afternoon when a body was found '˜floating in the sea'.

Sussex Police attended the scene at Hove beach along with the ambulance service and lifeboats were seen patrolling the water.

A section of the beach was cleared as emergency services put up a screen around the body, and the incident attracted large crowds on the esplanade.

A police spokesperson said: “At about 2.30pm on Sunday (31 July), emergency services were called to a report of a body floating in the sea at Hove.

“Police, paramedics and lifeguards attended the scene at Kings Esplanade, close to the junction with Fourth Avenue, and a man’s body was recovered from the water a short time afterwards.

“The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and the coroner’s officer has been informed.”
