A Crawley grandmother has been left traumatised after her Jaguar car, family photos and ‘irreplaceable’ parts for a classic car she owns were stolen from her driveway.

Police have appealed for witnesses after Heather Bedson’s X-Type was stolen in Climping Road, Ifield yesterday afternoon (Monday May 23).

Her son, Daniel, 38, said the theft made her a ‘bundle of nerves’ who after police left ‘shut down all the doors and closed and bolted all the windows in the house because she was afraid of someone coming in’.

He added she was in a ‘bit of a state’ and has offered a reward for anyone who can find the car. It had in it ‘irreplaceable’ parts for Heather’s 1966 Triumph Spitfire which had been given to her by a relative, her garden tools and music collection.

She bought the Jaguar for its appearance about three years ago having owned an original S-Type Jaguar in the 60s, he said.

A neighbour reported seeing Heather’s car at 3pm before she discovered it was missing at about 4pm.

Daniel said residents in Climping Road searched for the car, which was valued at about £6,000 and was locked and alarmed.

He said: “Mum’s been here for over 30 years and most of the other neighbours lived here for a similar time, so we are like a family.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said it was investigating a report of a stolen car in Crawley. He said: “A Jaguar is reported to have been stolen from the driveway of a property in Climping Road sometime between 1pm and 5pm on Monday.”

Anyone with any information was asked to contact or call 101, quoting serial 1201 of 23/05.

Daniel offered a reward for anyone who finds the car. Call Heather on 07960681253

Next door neighbour said she saw at about 3pm.

It locked and alarmed in the front driveway, partially obscured by a climbing plant on a fence, 15ft from the front door.

“It’s really really bizarre.

A chap nearby went into speak with brother on telephone, came out and car was gone, he said: “There’s been aquite a few thefts of cars in Pound Hill.”

“Mum’s lived in this house for 37 years and she’s had the car I think three years.”

It might have been about 4pm.

If she hadn’t gone out there to use the car she probably would not have noticed.

I live with her at the moment - she’s not been well.
