M23 reopened after police talk down man off bridge

The M23 has reopened between Pease Pottage and Gatwick Airport after police talked down a man off a bridge.

Sussex Police was called to multiple reports of a man on a bridge at 6.50am today (August 21).

A spokesman said officers closed the motorway in both directions from J11 (Pease Pottage) to J9 (Gatwick Airport) because of conflicting reports.

She said the man was now safe with officers.

The road was reopened at around 7.20am.
