Man appears in court charged with possessing kitchen knife after Crawley town centre brawl

A man has appeared in court charged with possessing a kitchen knife following a Crawley town centre brawl.

Naser Haji, 22, a clerk, of Lewes Road, Brighton, appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court after officers were called to a four man fight in Affogato, The Broadway at about 2.30pm on Thursday (March 10).

A court spokesman said he was remanded in custody to appear at a Lewes Crown Court hearing on April 8.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said a man in his 20s was bleeding from the head from a suspected stab wound shortly after the fight.

Police confirmed the incident was linked with the brawl and have appealed for witnesses.

A police spokesman said the group dispersed from the ice cream parlour before officers arrived.

Paramedics took the injured man in Victoria Mews, West Green, to Crawley Hospital after they were called at about 2.55pm.

Police cordons were put up around Affogato and charity shop Debra in The Broadway yesterday.

Haji and a 43-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of affray.

The man has been released on police bail until April 8 pending further enquiries.

Witnesses said blood could be seen outside Debra this morning.
