Man jailed for Horley burglary spate

Tony Hyde, 32 of Hexal Road, in Lewisham, was charged with eight offences relating to burglaries and attempted burglaries in Horley and Crydon between June and August.

Police said properties in Cheyne Walk, Upfield and The Cresent in Horley were targeted along with a property in The Glen in Crydon.

Officers said at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday (November 8) Hyde pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary with the other four offences ordered to lie on file.

He was jailed for 3 years and 9 months.

Investigating officer, PC Lee Munday said: “Hyde showed no regard for his actions. He was spotted by members of the public near the scene of one of the burglaries, resulting in a police pursuit involving the police helicopter. This caused significant disruption within the community.

“We hope that the sentence handed to Hyde will reassure the public that we take burglary very seriously and burglars should be in no doubt that if you offend we will come after you and ensure you are brought to justice.

“I would like to encourage people to take the necessary precautions to keep their homes safe from burglary. There are also a number of deterrents that might put burglars off, including marking your belongings with a forensic marking kit such as Selecta DNA spray or Smart Water.

“Another way of protecting your belongings is by registering them on Immobilise so they can be returned if they are recovered.”
