Man sentenced for sex offences in Crawley supermarket

A Crawley man has been sentenced for a series of sexual assaults on women in a supermarket.

Kaspars Grikis, unemployed, 36, of Woodfield Road, Crawley, was sentenced when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court on Monday (8 June), Sussex Police said.

A spokesman added: “He was given an 18-month community order, with an unpaid work requirement of 180 hours and a rehabilitation activity requirement. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £100.00.

Investigator Oli Robinson said officers were called to Tesco at Hazelwick, Crawley, in August last year to a report of a drunk man causing problems.

He added: “While officers were at the scene a woman reported having been sexually assaulted by touching in the store and another woman went to the police station to report a similar assault at the same time and place.

“We also obtained store CCTV which very clearly showed a similar assault on another woman in the store at around the same time, and a media appeal resulted in her and a fourth woman coming forward to say they had been assaulted in the same way.”
