Police want to speak to this man (pictured) after a 72-year-old woman was scammed shortly after two family bereavements.
Sussex Police released the image as part of its investigation into a series of scams in which criminals claim to be trusted officials in order to steal from victims’ bank accounts.
A spokesman said there was a ‘particularly heartless fraud’ in which a 72-year-old woman from Three Bridges was targeted shortly after two family bereavements.
“Her son has just died and she lost her husband only seven months’ ago.”
The spokesman added: “On May 5 - the same day her son’s obituary appeared in the press - she was contacted by a fraudster who told her that he was from Lloyds Bank and her bank card had been compromised.
“She was told a courier from the bank would be calling at her house to collect the card. When the bogus official turned up, he took the card and also some personal details, including the woman’s PIN number.
“Shortly afterwards £500 was withdrawn from her account. It is believed the man seen here at the Lloyds Bank cashpoint in Three Bridges Road may have been involved.”
Detective Constable Rees Hopcraft, of Crawley CID, added: “This crime was committed when the victim was at her most vulnerable.
“We are keen to trace the man seen here and would ask anyone who recalls seeing him or who may know who he is or where he can be found to get in touch.”
