Man wanted over Ifield murder urged to hand himself in

The detective leading the Ifield murder investigation has appealed for the man who police need to trace to hand himself in.

Police have warned the public not to approach Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw, 26, if he is seen and to call 999 immediately.

Detective chief inspector Karen Mizzi of Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: “We need to speak to Christopher Raymond Jeffrey-Shaw in connection with the investigation.

“A young woman has died in horrific circumstances. I am urging him to contact police.”

The body of a woman, possibly aged in her 20s, was found by firefighters in the boot of a burning Volkswagen Jetta parked near Ifield Golf Club in Rusper Road at around 2.30pm on Friday (March 13).

The cause of her death has been given as smoke inhalation, but her identity remains unknown.

Officers want to hear from anyone who may have seen Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw who comes from the Lewisham area of London, or knows of his whereabouts.

DCI Mizzi said: “We also want to hear from anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously or the vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta, in Rusper Road, Ifield on Friday between 2pm and 3pm.

“We are trying to identify the victim and would like to hear from anyone who may have an information about who she is.”

Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw is described as 6’, of stocky build with dark hair, and has a stubbly goatee beard.

A 34-year-old woman from Dulwich, London, who was arrested on suspicion for conspiracy to murder, has been released on bail until March 30.
