Police appeal after armed robbery in East Grinstead

Police investigating a report of an armed robbery in East Grinstead on Sunday (April 26) are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The victim - a 20-year-old man - was walking along Lewes Road when he was approached by two men on a motorbike at the junction with Herontye Drive.

The men threatened the victim with a weapon - thought to be an air rifle - and demanded that he hand over his belongings. They then fled towards Ashurst Wood.

A police spokesman said: “The victim was unharmed but was left shaken by the incident.

“An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of a firearm and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply. He remains in custody for questioning.”

Officers say they want to speak with two young males on push bikes and another person at a bus stop who were in the area at the time of the incident and may have seen what happened.
