Police investigate reports of ‘physical mistreatment’ at Sussex care home

Police have launched an investigation into reports of mistreatment at a Sussex village care home.

A spokesman said: “Officers from the Sussex Police Complex Abuse Unit have investigated allegations of physical mistreatment and lack of safeguarding of some residents at the Horncastle Care Centre in Plawhatch Lane, Sharpthorne.

“We continue to be in contact with West Sussex County Council and the Care Quality Commission.

“Four care workers at the centre, two women both aged 56, a man aged 68 and a man aged 50, have been interviewed by appointment under caution, on suspicion of ill-treatment of a total of 12 residents (nine men and three women) and a report has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.”
