Police investigating rape in Horsham Park

A 21-year-old woman was raped in Horsham Park in the early hours of Saturday morning (August 8), Sussex Police have confirmed.

The woman called police at around 3.20am to report that she had been raped, and was located in Hurst Road by an officer minutes later.

She was in the company of two male friends who came to her assistance after she contacted them at around 2.40am, a police spokesperson said.

Her attacker is described as white, aged no more than 22-23, 5’ 10”-5’ 11”, of average build with short dark hair and wearing a white t-shirt.

Detective inspector Dave Wardley-Wilkins said: “We are examining CCTV in a bid to locate and identify the suspect and in particular, around the Pavilions in the Park.

“If you saw anyone of his description in the area between 1.30am and 3.30am please email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Akela.”

Police officers cordoned off an alleyway leading to the park from Hurst Road to investigate the rape.
