Police seek witnesses to ‘mystery incident’ in East Grinstead

A plea for help has gone out from police over a ‘mystery incident’ in East Grinstead.

Officers say they believe a gun was involved during the incident which happened near a parade of shops at 5.50pm on April 21.

Police were alerted when three young men were reported to have been seen walking by a small white car parked in Holtye Avenue.

A spokesman said: “One of them produced what is believed to be a long barrelled gun.

“The passenger of the vehicle got out and handed over what is thought to be bag before getting back in to the car which then drove off. The three young men then ran off along Quarry Drive.

“There was no physical violence and no shots were fired.”

Investigator Lauren Chapman said: “We believe the three men had been seen just before this incident outside the Premier shop in Holtye Avenue Parade, by a woman wearing a striped white dress.

“We are asking that woman, and anyone else who saw anything of this incident, to contact us either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1161 of 22/04.

“We are also asking the occupants of the car, and the three men, to come forward so that we can check on their welfare.”
