Raiders smash Crawley Subway window with a bench

Burglars used a bench to smash a window at a Subway takeaway weeks after it had £2,000 stolen from its safe.

A Sussex Police statement said £150 was stolen from a safe in the shop in Gatwick Road at around 10.30pm on Thursday (August 27).

The break-in was linked to a burglary at another Subway, in The Boulevard, on August 28. The gang gained entry via a fire exit and made a failed attempt to steal cash.

Burglars used an angle-grinder to break into two safes and stole £2,000 from Subway, Gatwick Road, on August 2.

A police spokesman said the burglary was likely linked to a spate of break-ins on neighbouring businesses.

The contents of cash boxes, laptop and a small float was stolen from Barbers, Taylor Sims and Deluxe Services between 6pm on August 6 and 9am on August 7.

Witnesses were asked to call police on 101.
