Jamie Mills, 30, said he can hear cars braking late and ‘screeching’ their tyres on the A272 and the High Street from his garden.

The railway engineer, who moved to the village last September, added: “It’s just concerning.

“I would say it’s dangerous – definitely reckless.

“You would have thought people would have a bit more caution.

“I have always been taught if you’re driving through a built up area you should drive with a bit of caution.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers work closely with Community Speedwatch volunteers to identify areas of concern and to address them accordingly.

He added: “This may involve educational messaging, site speed checks and proactive policing enforcement.”

People ‘just seem to be putting their foot down’ according to Jamie.

He said: “There’s a lot of screeching tyres and stuff. Late braking.

“You sit there thinking to yourself why are you doing that. There’s no need for it.”

Jamie called for more police patrols in the area to ensure people drive safely.

He added: “It’s just a matter of time before there’s an accident.”

The spokesman said: “Speeding remains one of the four most common causes of fatal and serious injury collisions, and we are committed to keeping people safe, and targeting those who compromise the safety of themselves and other road users.

“We are currently supporting the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s bi-annual speeding campaign – this is in addition to routine roads policing 365 days a year.
