Sex offences trial ends with split jury

A sex offences trial was abandoned this week, after a jury was unable to agree on verdicts.

Samuel Blackman-Gibson, 20, of Ranmore Close, Crawley, denied two counts of sexual assault on a female, two counts of assault by penetration, and causing a female aged 13 or more to engage in sexual activity.

On Tuesday, the jury was discharged after it could not reach verdicts.

Jury members are always asked to reach unanimous verdicts if they can. If this is not possible, they are allowed to reach a majority verdict on any count which at least ten out of 12 members agree on.
