According to Sussex Police, at about 4.25pm yesterday two men, aged 29 and 23, were attacked in a flat in London Road, Bexhill, by several men after they gained entry.

The two victims were tied up and the flat was searched but nothing is known to have been taken.

No shots were fired and neither of the victims required hospital treatment, police said.

The attackers left after a few minutes and were seen getting into a car which left the scene. It was found nearby a short time later.

Four men, aged 29, 28, 23, and 20, all from Bexhill, were arrested shortly afterwards without incident, on suspicion of aggravated burglary. They are currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

No firearm has been found at this time.

This follows the news that armed police were seen in London Road yesterday afternoon at an incident that was still ongoing earlier today.

Detective Sergeant Lee Floyd said; “The motive for this incident is not currently clear and we are still in the process of establishing exactly what has happened. However we can say that only one specific address is involved and there was no wider threat to local people.

“Anyone who saw men entering or leaving the flat at around that time, or driving away in a silver Nissan Quashqai, or who has any other information, is asked to contact us via [email protected] quoting Operation Berkley.”

Witnesses can also report online to https://sussex.police.uk/contact-us/response-to-appeal/, call 101, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org)”.
