Three men charged after refusing to leave illegal gathering in Haywards Heath

Police have charged three men after they refused to leave during a large gathering of people in Victoria Park, Haywards Heath.

Sussex Police said Jazz Taylor, 19, of no fixed address, Craig Taylor, 50, of Forward Close, South Heighton, Newhaven and Paul Kayser, 47, of Perrymount Road, Haywards Heath, have all been charged with resisting arrest and failing to comply with Covid regulations by attending the gathering on Saturday, February 27.

Mr Taylor has also been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer.

A police spokesman said: “Officers tried to engage with the group and asked them to leave but they refused to comply with Covid regulations and resisted arrest.

“During the incident three police officers were assaulted and one officer suffered minor injuries.”

The trio have been released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 15 March.
