Ifield Railway Station’s ticket office is closed after the station was broken into in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday November 11).
Police were called to the station after a burglar alarm went off shortly before 1am.
The area manager for Southern Rail said: “There was a break-in overnight at the ticket office in Ifield station. The ticket office has been closed by police for investigation.”
The station was cordoned off for 20 minutes earlier this morning but is now open, though police remain at the scene to ensure the area is safe.
An asbestos panel is believed to have been smashed by the raiders.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
