Woman charged after car is driven through barrier at County Mall car park

A woman has been charged after an incident at County Mall in Crawley where a staff member was injured in a collision with a car.

Officers were called to the shopping centre on October 8 after reports two women with a young child had been shoplifting at Debenhams, said a police spokesman.

Staff followed two women into the car park, where they got into a car.

As the vehicle reversed out of a parent and toddler bay it narrowly missed one member of staff and collided with another, leaving him with an injury to his leg, said police.

The car drove through a car park barrier, breaking it, and onto Three Bridges Road.

Mary Totham, 29, a cleaner, of Gomshall Gardens, Kenley, Surrey, has been charged with theft of clothing and other goods from Debenhams and dangerous driving at the County Mall car park exit.

She has been released on bail and is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on December 23.
