Dead dogs laid side by side in village road

A couple found the young female Springer Spaniels in Newdigate Road, Leigh, Surrey, at about 6pm on Easter Monday.

Joe Bailey, of Mole Valley District Council, said he had never seen a case like it in the 28 years he had been an animal welfare officer for the council.

He appealed for information after the dogs’ bodies were taken to Seers Croft Veterinary Sugery, Faygate.

He said: “At this time (Wednesday) it is totally unexplained.

“There’s no visible external damage to either dog.

“Strangely they were both laid side by side.”

The liver and white Spaniels were not microchipped or carried any information that would help identify the owner.

The council was keeping their bodies in cold storage at the surgery.

Mr Bailey added: “The worst possible deed is done.

“We don’t want to keep the dogs.

“I don’t think we are going to get anymore evidence because they not microchipped.

“We would like to have the dogs cremated as quickly as possible.”

Mr Bailey said a litter of five Springer Spaniels was found abandoned just outside the Mole Valley district recently.

He said: “I just seems stranger that Springer Spaniels seem to be a common denominator.”

The latest case was transferred to the council after the surgery was inundated by messages after news of the discovery was shared on social media. People with information can call Mr Bailey on 01306879233.
