Southern Railway said it was unable to operate any train services between Ford and Barnham in the westbound direction, after the freight train broke down overnight.

Trains running from Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour to London Victoria were cancelled this morning, with replacement bus services not arriving at Barnham railway station until 7am.

Buses are running between Littlehampton and Havant, calling at all stations and shuttling between Barnham and Bognor.

Westbound services from London to Southampton, Portsmouth or Bognor Regis were being terminated at Littlehampton.

“Services will divert into Littlehampton, terminate short or be completely cancelled and will therefore be unable to return from Portsmouth, Southampton and Bognor Regis,” said Southern Railway on their website.

Shuttle trains from Bognor Regis to Littlehampton are currently suspended, according to the Southern Railway Twitter feed.
