District council wins award

SEBA was set up in 2000 to ensure high-quality education business partnerships are in place to encourage more schools and businesses to work together.

Adur Council received its business partner award for co-ordinating and engaging businesses in the creative industries project.

Partnerships with 12 local creative businesses, which include physical theatre, designers, musicians, visual artists and sound and lighting, have been formed.

And young people at Boundstone Community College interested in a career in the creative industry will now benefit.

The awards celebrate the collaborative work between education and business across the whole of Sussex.

Adur community wellbeing officer Pam Driscoll said: "We know a high proportion of students are interested in a career in the creative industries.

"The aims of this pilot project are to establish a number of joint projects which result in permanent and productive relationships.

"This will enable a pioneering range of two-way placements to be established between partner school and creative businesses, providing valuable work experience for young people."

This pilot project is funded by SEEDA through the Adur, Brighton & Hove Area Investment Framework.
