Domino’s chefs teach pizza making at ARK Horsham

Staff from the Horsham Domino’s take-away visited the homelessness charity ARK Horsham today (Thursday March 19) for a pizza-making workshop.

Friends of the charity, based in the Horsham United Reformed Church in Springfield Road, had fun stretching the dough and choosing their toppings before Domino’s took their creations back to the kitchen to cook.

Jess Norman, who goes round schools, nurseries and clubs teaching children, said: “This is the first time I have done it with adults.

“They have all got involved with it and I’m glad they have wanted to do it. A lot of people here feel they can’t accomplish anything.

“Making a pizza is an art. There’s an art to it and I wanted these guys to realise they have accomplished something - even something as small as making a pizza.”

ARK Horsham works holistically with people facing unemployment, homelessness, addiction and mental illness to help them turn their lives around.

Charity director and founder Lisa Burrell said: “The ARK family have had an amazing time this afternoon. I happened to bump into Jess and she mentioned her role with schools and I asked her to come in and get everybody involved in something.

“It’s built self esteem and a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. The guys have been looking at each other’s achievements and each person’s unique creativity.

“Every person is different and that’s been shown in how they have approached the activity and the finished article.”
