A statement from the organisers said: “This highly popular village fete, set at the foot of the picturesque South Downs and overlooking the river Arun has been a long-standing summer favourite with locals and visitors for many years.

“Located in the beautiful surroundings of Dorset House School the fete has been well known for its traditional stalls including tombola, boutique, cakes, plants, books, pictures and bric-a-brac, but this year the new committee has added lots of excitement to keep young children and families entertained too.”

Carol Shillingford, one of the fete organisers, said: “We are thrilled that so many people come to our fete to support Bury Church and this year we decided to build on past success with new attractions such as an inflatable slide, donkey rides, coconut shy, splat-the-rat and an ice cream van which we very much hope will add to a wonderful day out for all the family.”

Attractions include: Petworth Town Band, tug-of-war between local teams, a Grand Raffle draw with many prizes, including a top cash prize of £250, licensed bar, barbecue, dog agility demonstration, and an owl display.

Michelle Betts, the spokesperson for local sponsor Guy Leonard said: “As local estate agents, Guy Leonard & Co is delighted to be supporting this community event. We wish the fete great success and good weather too!”

There is a brand new photographic competition with free entry and prizes in all four categories. Entrants of all ages can take a photo on their smart phone at the fete to be printed on site and it will be entered into the competition.
