Police are continuing Operation Dragonfly - a summer drink-drive crack-down which has seen 79 drivers charged across the county this month.

Arrested motorists have spanned the age range and have been both male and female.

Following on from the Christmas drink drive campaign Sussex Police is continuing with its policy of naming arrested drivers.

Superintendent Jane Derrick, the head of the force’s roads policing unit, said: “A large proportion of those who we are arresting are being found behind the wheel in the early hours of the morning.

“If you think you can get away with drink-driving at 1am you should think again. Our officers are out on patrol looking for the slightest indication that you are unfit to be on the roads. You are not just putting your own life at risk, you are endangering everyone else using the roads.”

Chief Inspector Natalie Moloney said: “The summer puts a different type of offender on the roads than we catch at Christmas - the warm weather drinker.

“Whether drinking with family or friends at home or out at the beach, park or pubs don’t be tempted to drive and don’t forget that after a late night heavy session you will undoubtedly still be over the limit if you decide to drive in the morning.
