Durrington teenager's charity challenge

James Rudland, 16, who is in remission after months of gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy, is hoping to complete a 12-hour snooker marathon on Sunday (February 24).

James, from Hurley Road, is hoping the marathon, now being held at Connaught Leisure snooker club, in Marine Parade, Worthing, will raise 500 for leukaemia and cancer charity Leucan.

His mum Louise, 39, said: "He wants to do this because he had cancer and has recovered really well.

"We were put in touch with Leucan for support and they were brilliant.

"We are hoping other children from the group will come along to play against James."

James, who is doing a plumbing apprenticeship, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease after developing a severe cough in 2002.

He endured nine months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital, in London.

Louise said: "It did look quite bleak at the time, but James is in remission now.

"He is remarkable."

Always a keen snooker player, James plays up to four times a week.

He said: "I've never played for 12 hours before, but I am really looking forward to it."

James will start the snooker marathon at 10am.

Members of the public are invited along to support him. There will also be a raffle.
