Easter egg hunt with artistic twist in aid of Patina parade

Lewes-based children's charity Patina has put together a series of art-related events for local families in the run up to its annual parade.

Given the many artists working in the area, Patina is holding a Great Geocache Easter Egg Hunt around artists’ studios on Sunday, March 20, 1pm – 5pm, to give children the chance to experience how and where artists work. The organisation has partnered with Lewes Map for this event, and participants will receive a copy of the hand-drawn map to use in the hunt.

Lewes Map artist Malcolm Trollope-Davis said: “We’re really happy to be involved in this community event and delighted to see our map being used in such an original and entertaining way. We hope lots of families will get involved and everyone has a great adventure in and around Lewes.”

Participation will be £3 per person or £8 for a family of four to cover costs, with registration on the day at Waterstones Lewes, where participants will be given the GPS co-ordinates of the studios involved. There will be a “cache” of small Easter eggs at each studio and the child who finds the most studios will win a prize. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult and participants need a web enabled phone or device.

Patina co-ordinator Caroline Croft said: “We have had such a wonderful response from local artists, animators and graphic designers to this initiative and hugely appreciate their support and involvement.

“More than 20 studios will be open on the day especially for the children. We really want to bring the world of art to life for the children and hope that the combination of technology, artists’ imaginations and chocolate will be a winning combination for them.”

The second event in the series will be an Anonymous Art Auction to be held in April. The charity is inviting everyone in the town and surrounding villages, eminent artists and amateurs alike, to paint or draw a postcard sized picture inspired by the title “Something I saw”.

Donated artwork will be sold anonymously at a special community evening hosted by Cllr Ruth O’Keeffe MBE, at Lewes House on Friday, April 22 at 7pm. Proceeds will go towards the 2016 Moving On Parade. Postcards and forms are available from Lewes Tourist Office and artwork must be handed in at Lewes Tourist Office by April 11.
