Easter weather and travel across Sussex

The Easter break looks set to start off wet and remain cloudy across Sussex, according to the latest Met Office forecast.

Tomorrow (Good Friday) is due to start off with heavy showers but these will turn lighter and then stop during the afternoon.

Then the following three days are all due to remain cloudy with Easter Monday possibly slighly brighter.

The temperature will rise from tomorrow’s 5 to 7degC to 10 or 11degC by Easter Monday.

People travelling around Sussex over the Easter break will find it far easier thanks to several miles of roadworks being lifted.

Across the UK more than 550 miles of Highways Agency roadworks will be lifted over Easter to help bank holiday journeys go smoothly. In the south east alone around 180 miles of roadworks will either be lifted over, or completed by Easter

The Highways Agency – which from yesterday (April 1) became Highways England - aimed to complete or lift 209 sets of roadworks by today (April 2) – leaving almost 97 per cent of its 9,534-mile network free of roadworks in time for the holidays.

A23 Hickstead (near Hickstead) - barrier Inspections - 5.5 miles of roadworks completed for Easter Bank Holiday.

A27 Fontwell (near Arundel) - lighting replacement work - 1.25 miles of roadworks completed for Easter Bank Holiday.

A27 Offington Roundabout (near Chichester) - pavement Investigation - 1.06 miles of roadworks completed for Easter Bank Holiday.

A27 Sussex Pad (near Worthing) - carriageway resurfacing - 1.13 miles of roadworks completed for Easter Bank Holiday.

M23 Horley (near Crawley) - carriageway resurfacing - 1.13 miles of roadworks completed for Easter Bank Holiday.

M23 junction 9 (near Crawley) - carriageway resurfacing - 0.75 miles of roadworks completed for Easter Bank Holiday.

On the railway, travellers in the north of Sussex/Surrey border face some amended services and possible delays over the Easter period due to engineering works.

The signal box at Dorking is being updated to improve reliability and on Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th and Monday 6th, Southern will be running an amended Saturday service between London Victoria and Dorking / Horsham.

Whilst this work takes place trains will need to be talked past signals.

Passengers are advised to check with National Rail Enquiries for details.

On Sunday April 5, services between London Victoria and Dorking will be replaced by buses between Epsom and Dorking.

On Tuesday April 7, Southern services between London Victoria and Horsham will not call at Holmwood, Ockley or Warnham.

Buses will run between Dorking and Horsham, calling at stations in between.

Also on the Tuesday, some services which normally run between London Victoria and Dorking will start /terminate at Epsom.

Major work on the south-eastern side at London Bridge means two of Southern’s platforms will be used by Southeastern to run a Hastings to London Bridge service.

This means that Southern’s Horsham to London Bridge services will start /terminate at East Croydon.

A normal Sunday service will operate on Sunday April 5.
