Eco-town campaigners' joy at High Court decision

CAMPAIGNERS against an eco-town at Ford say they are delighted by the High Court's decision to hold a judicial review into the Government's programme.

The judgment, by Mr Justice Collins, means that the Government is likely to go before the High Court by the end of the year.

The decision follows the application for the review, made in June, by the Bard Campaign '“ the group against the proposed Middle Quinton eco-town between Stratford-upon-Avon and Evesham in Warwickshire/

Worcestershire.

Communities Against Ford Eco-Town (Cafe) chairman Terry Knott said: "Cafe is delighted to hear that the whole so-called eco-town process is definitely going to be examined in court.

"Although we accept that there is a case to be made for affordable housing in many parts of the country, it is for the locally-elected and appointed planning authorities to work out the best solutions to achieve this, alongside other housing issues, not some far-distant civil servant or even minister of the crown."
