Emergency works for A23 Crawley traffic junction

West Sussex County Council will start work on the traffic signals at the A23 Crawley Avenue/Gossops Drive junction, on Thursday January 2.

Further improvements will be made to the junction, including the introduction of the latest energy saving LED technology and ‘Puffin’ style crossings.

A spokesman for the county council said: “Once in place, the signals will be more intelligent and more reactive to the needs of traffic.”

The work is expected to take five weeks to complete.

The existing lights will be kept working for as long as possible before the A23 is reduced to one lane to filter traffic.

Right turns from the A23 southbound into Gossops Drive, and right turns out of Gossops Drive, will be prohibited during the works.

Alternative routes will be signed and advance warning signs put in place.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes while the work is being done.
