Emirates' £10,000 gift to children's home

STAFF and clients at the children's centre in Dorset Road were delighted to welcome town MP Gregory Barker last Friday.

He brought with him a 10,000 cheque from the president of the United Arab Emirates.

A total of 50,000 was given to local good causes when the UAE Technical Training Project UK held its student graduation ceremony at Northeye recently.

Centre operations manager for social services Alison Borland said: "We are extremely pleased. We were approached and asked if a donation were made how would we spend it.

"We didn't hear anything further until after the presentation ceremony.

"We were very pleased to welcome Mr Barker."

With Anthony Julian, operations manager for the centre's residential side, Mr Barker toured the centre to see its work.

The 10,000 will be used to fund a play scheme and to take youngsters on action holidays to Hindleap Warren.
