45,000 Horsham District homeowners need to upgrade homes to meet Government targets

To meet the required standard by the deadline of 2035 they will need to upgrade their home, Horsham District Council cabinet member for environment, recycling and waste Phillip Circus said.

He added: “Across the Horsham District, only one-third of homes have reached the required energy efficiency standard that needs to be achieved by 2035, as part of the Government’s Clean Growth Strategy.

“This means around 45,000 homeowners in Horsham District need to take some action to upgrade the energy efficiency of their home.”

The council has joined forces with Warmer Sussex, a not-for-private-profit cooperative, to offer a one-stop-shop for Sussex residents in their journey to a warm, healthy and energy efficient home.

Warmer Sussex offers support from start to finish to improve people’s home energy efficiency, the council said. Residents contacting Warmer Sussex will get a tailored plan which assesses homes as a whole. They then find trusted contractors to complete the work, and ensure all work undertaken meets quality standards.

Mr Circus said: “We urge everyone to consider looking at this scheme. Residents who consider refitting their homes to make them warmer and more energy efficient will not only help contribute to achieving our targets to reduce carbon emissions, but will also make their homes warmer and healthier.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to sign up for the webinars to find out how they can save money on their energy bills and create warmer homes.”

To help guide residents on how to save energy and save on their bills a series of free webinars have been set up. The first webinar took place yesterday, February 16, from 7pm – 8pm: The Beginner’s Guide to Retrofit.

A follow up webinar with specialist expert advice is on Tuesday, February 23, from 7pm to 8pm on Home retrofit: insulating your home.

The webinars are aimed at Sussex homeowners who want a warm and healthy home, but are not sure where to start with energy efficiency improvements, and would like to know more about what they could do to make their homes warmer and save on energy.
