Kayseri Erciyesspor president Ziya Eren has told Turkish media he has bought Crawley Town for just £1.

The steel magnate has been quoted as saying it was a ‘symbolic’ payment and that he aims to have the League 2 side in the Championship in eight to ten years.

The 47-year-old has also told Turkish website Haberturk that he is currently waiting on Football League ratification for the deal to be completed.

The club announced on Monday that a deposit had been paid to their solicitors.

On Tuesday, a source close to the club laughed off claims that the Turkish first division side president had paid €4 million.

That figure was said to be ‘wildly off the mark’.
