CHAMPAGNE corks were flying last Saturday night at Littlehampton cabbie John Stone's house after his syndicate won on the National Lottery.

Nine lucky drivers, including Alan Russell, William Scutt, Robert Taylor, Maurice Martin, Ahmet Aziz and David Balchin all from Chauffeur taxis in Wick, won a share of 144,222, giving them just over 16,000 each.

John was at home with his wife Jean when he discovered his syndicate had five numbers and a bonus ball.

He said: "It wasn't until late evening that we decided to check the ticket. I had to get Jean to double-check the numbers just to make sure I hadn't imagined it."

He added: "I didn't sleep at all that night as I just couldn't believe it and, in fact, I still can't!

"The win has come at a really good time it will make a great difference to our lives, but we intend to spend our money wisely."

The winning ticket was bought from Wick Street Newsagents, where the syndicate had been playing the lottery for the last three years, using the same set of numbers.

They intend to carry on playing the lottery and already have a few ideas on how they would like to spend their money.

And it's no surprise that holidays, home improvements and celebratory meals are high on their lists!
