Farm fire may be arson

A FIRE which ripped through a barn in Barcombe may have been arson.Just before midnight on Sunday, flames tore through the barn at Camoys Farm.

Farmer Mark Cornwell, 51, who has worked on the farm all of his life, watched helplessly as the blaze destroyed the building.

He said: 'It was horrible to see the fire raging away like that and not be able to do anything.

'Obviously, it's a disturbing thing to see but the firefighters were excellent and did all they could.'

The Barn, which was full of 85 tonnes of straw, was completely destroyed. Only the twisted steel frame was left standing.

Mr Cornwell said the fire looked as if it was started deliberately and fire investigators are currently (Tuesday morning) looking into the circumstances of the blaze.
