Felpham fashion students take to the catwalk

Model students at Felpham Community College combined coursework and the catwalk for a charity fashion show.

The Brit-themed event is expected to make a final profit of 250-500.

This will be shared between three organisations '“ the local PASCO charity for parents and carers, Sightsavers and the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice and presented in the summer.

The show was staged by four sixth formers for an enterprise project as part of their AS level applied business studies.

The organisers '“ Laura Chinery, Ali Stevens, Jamie Stone and Amy Benjamin '“ had been working on the project since January putting in all the hard work behind the scenes to enable the 100-plus members of the audience to enjoy the night.

Fashion director Jamie (17) said: "It has been interesting. We have learnt things about working with businesses and working as a team.

"It's been really hard at times and easy at others. The easy part was designing the posters and other advertising.

"The hard bit was getting the models. We only had four turn up at an audition.

"But we changed the time from after lessons to lunch time and they were coming to us in the end."

Laura (16), in charge of administration, commented: "I am proud we have put on the show. It's a real achievement. There were a lot of things to think about."

Rehearsals to achieve the polished final look took place for an hour a week for a month. Two members of a local dance school came in to give the models '“ styled by Look Fantastic '“ the confidence to parade along the catwalk.

They wore clothes supplied by New Look, Burtons, Dorothy Perkins, M & Co and The Party Shop in Bognor Regis and Chichester's Meritz and Game Set and Match.

A prize draw, with a top prize of an iPod Nano, thanks to Solutions inc helped to boost the total raised alongside ticket sales. Other donations came from Virgin Vie and the Body Shop.
