Felpham walkers raise cash for hospice

A team of students from Felpham Community College helped to raise money for charity by taking part in the 25th Wittering Walk.

The sun shone for the walk and it is hoped more than 10,000 has been raised for St Wilfrid's Hospice. After torrential rain last year it was definitely a case of fingers crossed for the walk.

Teacher Nichole Matthews from the community college organised a team to join her. They won the team prize and next summer they will enjoy a trip around Chichester Harbour on the Harbour Conservancy's solar-powered catamaran.

More than 300 people attended from as far afield as Weybridge, Luton and Brighton to take part in the walk.

Participants had the choice of walking a three, six, or ten-mile route during the event on October 4. Those who raised the most sponsorship will soon be receiving a medal.

On their return the weary walkers were entertained by George's Regis Jazz Band playing some lively favourites and the barbecue was run by the Birdham and Wittering Scout Group.

Organiser Richard Dyer said: "It is early days yet, but the Wittering Walk is hoping to raise over 10,000 for St Wilfrid's Hospice at Chichester '“ a brilliant result in these difficult times.

"The event committee would like to say a huge thank you to all who took part, and to the 100 volunteers who helped on the day and made the whole event possible."
