Flag pole will honour Queen

A NEW flag pole is to be erected in Billingshurst in honour of the Queen.

Parish councillors have agreed to buy a £771 Diamond Jubilee flag pole by spending the council’s remaining budget for 2012.

At a meeting on March 7 Beverley Bell, the clerk, confirmed the council had £356.50 left in this year’s budget, and the remaining £414.50 can be made up with next year’s budget.

The fibre glass pole would cost £686 plus VAT which includes installation and would need full planning permission at a cost of £85.

Councillors agreed they would locate the flagpole on the green outside the Billingshurst Centre to allow them to take responsibility for raising it and taking it down.

Planning permission will take up to eight weeks meaning the pole should be up in time for the Diamond Jubilee.
