Fountain is back

WATER is again flowing at a popular open space in Aldwick.

The fountain in Marine Park Gardens on Marine Drive West is being switched on - at least for the time being.

Arun District Council has reversed its previous decision to turn off the water feature after months of below average rainfall.

But a council spokeswoman said its parks department had decided the amount of rain earlier this month - and the continued absence of a hosepipe ban from Portsmouth Water - should see the fountain sparkling again.

“The fountain is a key feature and an extremely popular attraction for visitors to the park,” she said.

“However, the fountain has been abused in the past with debris and detergent being thrown into it which requires the fountain to be drained, cleaned and refilled.

“If this happens again, the district council might decide to turn off the fountain again in the interest of managing valuable water resources.”

The stopping of the fountain was reported in the Bognor Regis Observer recently.
