Mayor Chris Cheshire was among one of the lift’s first passengers while Langley Green councillor Brenda Smith cut the ribbon - assisted by two young members.

The centre in Stagelands is used for short break activities for children and young people with disabilities, as well as opening its doors for open access play for families with non-disabled children.

The lift, jointly funded by West Sussex Members’ Big Society Fund and Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust, ensures the play room and offices on the first floor are easily accessible to all. Cllr Cheshire, who is disabled herself, has been a long-term supporter of the centre.

The centre is open for families to use on a membership scheme term time, Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm and Wednesday to Friday 10am to 5pm in school holidays.
