Gatwick PCSO picks up award

Victor Finch, who also runs the police’s Hotel Watch scheme, has been awarded with a Certificate of Merit for his work, dedication and commitment to Enable, the Sussex Police Disability & Carers Association.

The association aims to help people with or affected by disabilities participate fully, free from discrimination, in all aspects of Sussex Police business.

It is also open to those without a disability, impairment or medical condition, but who have caring responsibilities for someone who has a disability.

PCSO Finch was among dozens of Surrey and Sussex Police staff and officers recognised at an Operations Command awards ceremony at Clair Hall in Haywards Heath on July 26.

He said: “I’m delighted to receive this award, which I hope will help to highlight and expose the work we do to support our own staff and officers within the force.

“Enable is about being a voice for the minority, some of whom may not otherwise have the confidence to speak up about an issue they have. We challenge force policy where necessary, we help people get the support they need and most importantly, we make a difference.

“It’s nice to be recognised for the work we do, which wouldn’t be possible without the support from all of our committee members, and it’s good to know we have the continued support of the Chief Constable.”

The group is run by volunteers.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said PCSO Finch has been an “integral” part of the association and over the past year helped to review and challenge the force’s policy.

He has also given talks illustrating the value and importance of a transparent and considerate line management relationship for colleagues who have caring responsibilities.

Sussex Police Diversity Manager Dermot Torney said: “Vic’s hard work and selfless approach to pursue an agenda which benefits other colleagues in the organisation, and ultimately the people of the wider community, make him a true ambassador for Sussex Police values.”
