Golden mile of pennies in Bognor Regis

ROTARIANS raised hundreds of pounds in Bognor Regis town centre to help disaster victims around the world.

The £400-plus was donated by shoppers to the Rotary Golden Mile on show in the precinct on July 30.

The mile was Bognor Regis Rotary Club’s answer to the Mile of Pennies. Each of the 400 stickers placed on it represented donations.

Chris Martin, the chairman of the club’s events committee, said: “There was particular interest in the Shelter Box on display. As a result of the collection, the club has agreed to buy two new Shelter Boxes. Each box contains all that is required to sustain ten people in the worst of conditions following earthquakes, tsunamis and similar tragedies.

“Rotary International has sent over 80,000 Shelter Boxes to many parts of the world over the past ten years.”

Anyone who would still like to contribute should send a donation to the Bognor Regis Rotary Club c/o Bognor Regis Golf Club.
