Grant to increase interfaith community

Crawley Borough Council has given £1,325 to the Crawley Interfaith Network to help it increase cohesion in the town.

The Community Cohesion Grant, given during Inter Faith Week (November 17-23), will help the network pay for events, talks to community groups, administration, publicity and website development.

Steve Innes, chair of Crawley Interfaith Network, said: “Our aim is to work with all our faith communities to build the kind of understanding, friendship and trust that creates a society in which mutual respect and cooperation focus our efforts on the real issues that affect us all in an age of austerity and intolerance.

“This grant supports our programme of talks to schools, colleges and community groups by leaders from all the main Crawley faith communities, and allows us to work with national and regional interfaith groups to address issues of concern to all.”

Cllr Nigel Boxall, Cabinet member for Community Engagement, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to support this worthwhile cause with a Community Cohesion Grant. I’d urge other groups who meet our criteria to come forward and apply.”

Any school or community group which would like a talk on the essentials of a particular faith by an experienced faith leader can email the Interfaith Network at [email protected] or call 01293 532730.

Community and voluntary groups are invited to apply to the council for Community Cohesion Grants, up to a maximum of £2,500. The scheme is open to applications now.
