Hanover Band’s link with Arundel

The Hanover Band is fast approaching its four-concert Arundel residency, which runs from June-August in St Nicholas Church.

The new residency is a firm commitment from both the Arundel patrons and The Hanover Band Foundation to bring world-class concert performances to Arundel over forthcoming years.

The Hanover Band, founded by its artistic director, Caroline Brown in 1980, is a British professional period instrument orchestra, with an international reputation for the excellence of its performances and recordings of 18th and 19th century music.

Caroline said: “The orchestra’s list of directors over previous years, reads like a Who’s Who of period interpretation: Monica Huggett, Sir Charles Mackerras, Roy Goodman, Anthony Halstead, Nicholas McGegan and Nicholas Kraemer.”

First of the concerts is the Diamond Jubilee Concert on Friday, June 1 at 7.30pm when the programme will feature Albinoni - Oboe Concerto in D; Vivaldi - Violin Concerto in D

J S Bach - Cantata No.56, Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen; J S Bach - Double Violin Concerto in D; and J S Bach - Cantata No.82 Ich habe genug.

The concert features Thomas Guthrie bass; Joel Raymond oboe; Benjamin Hudson violin; and Elizabeth Wallfisch violin.

Elizabeth has guest-directed many of the world’s best period instrument orchestras including the OAE, Netherlands Bach Society, Tafelmusik, The Hanover Band, Apollo’s Fire, L’Orfeo Barockorchester, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Philharmonia Baroque.

Later in the summer the Hanover Band will be a key element in the Arundel Festival. Spread over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Band present three concerts featuring Johann Sebastian Bach’s Six Brandenburg Concertos, alongside works by his contemporaries (August 25-27).

The concerts will be Saturday, August 25 at 2.30pm; Sunday, August 26 at 7.30pm; and

Monday, August 27 at 11am at St.Nicholas Church, Arundel.
