‘Heartbreak’ as Wick mum falls foul of thieves – again

A dismayed Wick mum-of-three has spoken of her frustration after thieves targeted her home – for the third time in little more than a year.

Derralyn White, of Pottersmead, was looking forward to celebrating her 38th birthday and Christmas with family at home.

However, her festive plans were scuppered when thieves broke into an outdoor shelter in her back garden, in the early hours of last Sunday, (December 16) making off with the Aprilia RS 125 motorcycle, which Mrs White had been keeping safe for a family friend.

The vandals then drove the bike around Wick, before torching and dumping it in nearby Colebrook Road, at around 1.35am. It is the latest in a spate of similar thefts in the Wick and Littlehampton area.

Mrs White spoke of her anguish at discovering the bike had been stolen. “This is so painful for me.

“It’s the second time people have taken this bike. It’s just so distressing.

“Last time it was recovered, but now it’s been destroyed.

“I feel like I am being victimised and I just it want to stop.

“I was hoping to celebrate my birthday and Christmas, but this has just made me so angry. I can’t understand why anyone would want to do this to me.”

Police are investigating the crime and have since arrested a 20-year-old man from Littlehampton and a 16-year-old boy, also from the town, in connection with the theft and arson of the Aprilia. The pair have been bailed until January 2.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may know something about the incident, to come forward and contact them on 101, quoting serial number 0131 of 16/12 or by calling the independent charity Crimestopppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

“It’s terrible because I was looking after the bike for a friend in London. He was supposed to collect it in January. He will be very upset,” she said.

In November, Mrs White had her scooter taken from her home. It was also set alight, although the damage was not as extensive as in last Sunday’s incident.
