Help shape future of town’s bus services

Young people who want to help shape future transport and travel services in Crawley are being invited to a special conference at the K2 next month.

CHAT @ K2 Crawley (Crawley, Horsham and Travel) is offering young people the chance to debate local transport issues with transport professionals and decision makers.

The event takes place at the K2 Leisure Centre, Pease Pottage Hill, Crawley, West Sussex, RH11 9BQ, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 6.

It has been organised by the Young People’s Travel Forum in association with the West Sussex Youth Cabinet, West Sussex County Council, Metrobus, the Sussex Community Rail Partnership and the K2 Leisure Centre.

The event follows a similar conference held at County Hall in Chichester last year which was attended by more than 30 young people from across West Sussex.

As a result of what people said on the day, improvements have been made to the way the County Council shares travel information with young people.

Metrobus also used young people’s suggestions to help design its bus stop infrastructure.

Those who attend this year’s event are being asked to give their views on what improvements they feel could be made to travel and transport facilities in Crawley and Horsham.

Organisers have put together a display of different types of transport, and an information marketplace with stalls which provide details about local activities and travel options.

There are also free prize draws as well as lots of freebies on offer.

Attendees will also be able to record their thoughts about the event in a ‘Big Brother’ style video diary room.

County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Pieter Montyn, said: “Being able to bring young people together with commercial operators to discuss their needs worked really well last year and we are hoping for the same success with this year’s event.”
